Three computer science seniors Josiah Hanna, Charlie Effinger and Craig Schmidt, recently competed in the Cabinet for Economic Development’s Idea State U competition, taking third place in the undergraduate business plan category. They also placed as the top undergraduate team in the UK Venture Challenge.

UK Junior Josiah Hanna Named Goldwater Scholar

Josiah Hanna, of Lexington, Ky., has been awarded the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship worth up to $7,500 per year. Hanna is one of 271 students nationwide awarded the Goldwater Scholarship this year. This year's Goldwater Scholars were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,107 mathematics, science and engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of colleges and universities nationwide.

Goldsmith, Ashley and Mihail Named Recipients of Provost’s Award for Outstanding Teaching

The University of Kentucky Office of the Provost has announced that Judy Goldsmith, professor in the Department of Computer Science, Jeffrey Ashley, Jr., lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Radu “Paul” Mihail, teaching assistant in the Department of Computer Science, will each receive a Provost’s Award for Outstanding Teaching. The awards were established by the Office of the Provost to reward and encourage excellence in teaching. A maximum of six awards may be given from among the entire university’s faculty. Goldsmith’s award will be given from the category of regular and special title series, Ashley’s award will come from the category of lecturer and Mihail’s award is from the teaching assistant category.
